My life in Asia
In 2018, I graduated from my Masters program at the University of Dayton. UD is near my hometown in Cincinnati and while I had traveled abroad before, I felt I needed to live abroad and get to know the world better. So, I packed up and move to the Japanese countryside! For one year, I lived in Ube and worked for a small conversation school. I taught absolutely everyone: preschoolers, kindergarteners, high schoolers, business people, and the elderly. In Japan, I also learned the basics of videography for my YouTube channel, which would later become my work! After my contract ended in 2019, I didn't have a new job lined up so I spent the next 5 months traveling around Asia while tutoring English learners online. I went home for Christmas, and got stuck there for all of covid! The juxtaposition between midwestern life and the hustle of Asia made me really want to hop back on the plane... In 2021, whilst trapped, I began working online with Uni-edit to produce online educational materials for international academics.
TWO YEARS LATER I finally got my chance to move to Taiwan. I had visited twice before and it was the only place that felt both relaxed, and fast-paced. It also met my two main requirements: 1. Big city, 2. Close to nature. Still with Uni-edit, my online work transitioned to the in-person seminars I love today! As of 2025, I crossed my three years in Taiwan and it feels like yesterday that I landed. Now, I regularly travel to universities, research departments, and corporations around Taiwan and Asia. I take frequent trips into the mountains to hunt insects and views. I also joined FitFam Taipei, a community workout group. I lead a few HIIT workouts a month, and I have climbed the CKS Memorial Hall staircase over 1,500 times! Now that I have established Taiwan as my new home, I find that everyday has something exciting waiting for me :)
